[On top of page and continued on to the next page of the letter] I waited writing on purpose to say something about my box and have been so busy writing history that I could scarcely get time to write. The things were very nice. such a veriety and such a quantity of each kind; I shall not rue it and I hope you will not. I would not have countenanced the sending of the box at all if I had though you would have sent so many things for I must but know that you will of necessity rob yourselves The things were were very nice indeed and are appreciated I can asshure you. You had no need to make excuses about sending presents the box was a great present in its self and such a one as was well calculated to please. I am glad the Conneaut School is out so I can get a letter from a certian yong lady attending it and I am going to ask said yong lady to make me a Christmas present some time during the vacation in the shape of a necktie or she can wate until the Holydayes and make it for a New Years present I will be very
