June, WEDNESDAY 8, 1864 Strongly reinforced to day by Brooks and Averills commands. The Richmond RR being destroyed to day. THURSDAY 9. The 34th. Regt went down the RR about a mile from Stanton and worked hard all day destroying RR track weather very warm FRIDAY 10. Commensed our march from Stanton to Lexington this AM at 7 1/2 oclock. The command commensed march this morning at about 3 o'clock. Found the country a very pleasant one and also a rich one large fields of wheat were very common. and springs.do. After a march of about 20 miles we arrived at a small town called midway. About M our Col announced to the brigade that a baggage train of 240 wagons loaded with supplies had come up; and that Gen Hunter had received dispatches stating that Grant had met with good success; This [news?] caused much loud cheering.
