Saving...
we were going along under the bank of acreek when we came to aplace where the water had washed the bank out from under the bushes and trees that grew along the bank and they had caved over and left agood place for vermin to hide. well we seen any amount of possum tracks there the tracks were fairly piled up. and we began to look around to see what we could find when we saw apossum's tail sticking out from under the bank. we could just see the form of the possum and could as well shot it as not. but we thought it would be such agood joke on the possum to slip up and catch it naping so we laid down our guns and slipt up and grabed it by the tail and hauled it out however we hadacosiderable scrable first on the account of the roots and dirt and one thing and another but we hung on to it like solders telling it it had no business to be apossum and everything else that we could think of untill we hauled him out and then to our orful surprise we found that it was dead and had been for two or three days from the looks. but we didnt stop to look long we were satisfied with our adventure well that was all we killed that day and I have not been hunting since.. well I dont know but what I have written as much as you will want to read but still I have not wrote quite enough yet pay day is close at hand if I can judge from the amont of money the boys has there is not more than about two or three dollars in the Company I guess but they havent been out very long they always lay of to spend
