May 11th 1862 Camp No 4 Near Corinth Mississippi Dear Father your letter of the 22nd of April came to hand last evening it found me in good health and spirits the health of the soldiers here is good generaly I believe. we have had just exercise enough since we left our old Camp Shiloh to keep us in good health we left there on the 29th and moved toward Corinth it was a general move the whole column moving at the same time with General Halleck at our head. I thought then we would have been in another heavy battle before this time but I see Halleck dont hurry things till he knows what he is doing. we place confidence in him here for all he is a dark homely looking man our generals are all working right this
