(Vertically, athead of page:-) you or Jane must write at least once amonth had pretty well cleaned them out they furnished them some guards I hapened to be one of the guards you better believe I lived well they used us well. gave us plenty and were very hospitible although they didnt pretend to be Union. but enough of that subject. one year ago just about this time aday I left home. I would like to know what you are all doing to day and what I will be doing this time next year there is a report here that MClelan is badly whiped at Richmond if that is true I think I will be soldiering next year. but I do hope it is not true although it seems to come very strait XXX I got aletter from George two or three days ago he is well and still at work at Uncle Norval Stevensons he says he has not had a letter from home for the last six months X well I must quit for the present nothing more at present from your affectionate niece Oliver
