Camp on the bank of the Mississipi river Memphis Tenn July 22nd 1862 Dear Sister we arrived here yesterday got about awagon load of letters I got one out of the pile and it was from you so I will answer it strait way. I do not know how long we will stay here but general Sherman has taken command of the post here so I suppose we will stay here several days at least. if we do we can get our mail regular then you will hear from me as often as you wish and perhaps oftener. I will not give you the detailes of our scouts and marches since I wrote to you last only that we have saw pretty hard service on the account of the almost intolerable hot weather. yesterday was avery hot
