Camp 6th Iowa Grand Junction Tenn March 29th 1863 Dear Father We have had so much to do of late that time for letter writing is getting to be considerable of an object. between working on the fortifications, doing Picket duty, and going foraging we have not much time left there is only six small companies here besides our Regt consequently the duty above mentioned is devolved almost solely on our little Regt Chenys battery of four guns is with us and two guns from Dressers battery there is no Cavalry short of Lagrange -- three miles west of here-- There has been considerable talk lately of our being attacked by a force of about ten thousand coming from the direction of Holly Springs the report is not generaly credited we have heard it so often since we have been here that its got to be an old thing
