We traveled on an average of about 30 miles a day The most of the time over the roughest kind of country. I think that was doing pretty well for men not used to riding especialy riding mules. but we found it much easier than marching we wouldnt care to stay mounted the rest of our term of soldiering and may for all I know. we still have our mules and the talk is that we will keep them awhile at any rate. Well I am getting tired of writing and as we have to drill now in a few minutes I will bring my epistle to a close without any farther remarks. Write as often as convenient. I have not heard from Henry for more than a month. I wrote to him about a month ago but have received no answer you said in your last that he was worse again I am sorry his health keeps so poor for I know what it is to be sick in the army. but it may be all for the best for it seems as though they must all have a spell of sickness before they can stand soldiering ... Come to think I will wind up with a short song very appropriate in its place. Oliver
