that when there is a vacancy among the officers that some dandy of a fellow that has been around Head Quarters till they get themselves into notice gets the place and keeping some fellow out that is worth a half a dozen of them and their only fault is because they stick to their duty too close. they don't get themselves into notices To illustrate it I will show you how it has been worked in our company. they have been filled from their companies only a few days ago our Capt recommended a private from Co J for orderly Sergeant of our Co he is now our orderly and I expect in a few days will be our second Lieutenant as that place is vacant at present. he seems to be good enough to fill the place the boys have nothing against him. but why did our Captain recomend any man from another Company when he had just as good in his own Company
