the rebels and held them in check till we sent them reinforcements the morters are throwing shell and our canon fire every 10 minutes day and night 8 no rain for 3 weeks verry dusty indeed our boys advance a little every night close enuf to hear the rebels whisper 9 to night we have orders to sit up some gabions in the advance where the 9 made the charge we went and got there about 8 oc pm there was to be an extra picket guard
