it beforehand. Vegetables are scarce in England! compared with their abundance in the States. Pies (except Meat pies) are unknown here. Hot Cakes and hot head are used but very seldom. Dry bread is preferred to fresh! In arrangeing the table, the Water is always placed upon it in glass bottles. - At English Hotels they have no book in which all persons enter their names upon arriving. The Royal however has a book in which Foreigners can enter their names if they desire to. I have just been looking through it. Recognised the Signature of my friend Gibson of New York, and several others.
June 6th I have been fully occupied today.  This morning I walked around the Walls - originally built by the Romans - and visited all the curious and interesting places connected thruwith. I also walked through the Rows. The 'Rows' are corridors or galleries,  at the elevation of several yards from the carriage round running parralel with the [from?] principal streets.
