When cold make cake with spices to taste. This makes two large loaves. Dried Apple Cake 1 c. sour milk 1 teaspoon soda 1 cup butter & lard mixed 1 cup brown sugar 4 cups flour 1 cup raisins 1 cup currants 1 cup dried apples soaked overnight. In morning chop, not to fine. Add 2 cups of molasses & cook slowly 2 hrs. When cold make cake, spices to taste. This makes 2 large loaves. Aunt Gertie Devil's Food 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup butter 1 egg 1/4 cup sour milk 1 tsp. soda 1 1/2 cup flour Vanilla to taste 2 sq. Baker's choc or 2 big tablespoons cocoa disolved in 3/4 cups Boiling water 1 small tsp B Pow. Mrs. Plauty D. Cake 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup lard 1 tesp. salt 1 egg 1/2 cup choc. 1 cup sour milk 1 small tesp B. soda dissolved in 2 tesp. hot water 2 cups flour 1 tesp. [ill.]
