1875 A year of work and simple pleasures. June - a visit of a few days with Bro Charlie, who lived at Burlington. During this visit he spoke of being at the Harris House. Mother and I also made a short visit to Burlington. She spoke of several young men, students, as boarders - two from [Meeker?] Iowa. In October Uncle Jim Anderson died suddenly. Nov 19 - I began teaching a country school in the Valley. I lived with Aunt Emma - Minie [Givens?] who had lived with us, went house keeping in town for our father. 1876 A year of hard work and simple pleasures. We had some improvement in the back part of the house and took care of several young men students. Ann Harrris died. Feb 3rd and I finished teaching a term in the Valley on Feb 25th. - Brother was in business in Burlington. we came home for a short visit bringing Birdie Harris with us. That was her first visit. Mar 26th Grandfather McCollister died on May 20th - I went to Burlington for a few days
