Saving...
The swindlers are abroad in the land, working up a new scheme. The plan is to induce a farmer to sign his name in a book, which the swindler represents to be a reference only, but which proves to be an order for 2,000 feet of wire clothes-line at five cents per foot. In a few days thereafter swindler number two comes along and presents a bill for $100, signed by the farmer. The latter protests but is finally induced to compromise rather than go to court.
