Wednesday, March 1, 1865. March 1st and all my bright visions of Washington city gone into thin air This A.M. with Mr Thayer and the ladies visited the hospital. Found everything satisfactory. P.M. went riding with Mr Thayer and had a very narrow escape, & the horse I was on was wild & ran off with me But the first of it was so pleasant that I can soon forget the last.
