Monday, March 27, 1865. Engaged Pauline to do the washing and ironing, but for all that Mother would work, and that distressed me. Had several calls from friends but enjoyed Nellie more than any other. The time of my stay is growing shorter and I am getting all I can out of the passing moments. Six to eight letters daily but no time to reply.
