Thursday, April 27, 1865. This morning at breakfast had the good-fortune to meet Capt Ritner from Mt P- Were off by ten o'clock on the Silver Star. After two hours on the Elizabeth River entered the canal and soon after the Dismal Swamp. Evening sat on the guards and sang. Col Stewart Capt's DeGress, Ritner & others very kind. Slept on the cushions as there were no bearths. Had to lay by over night.
