Thursday, May 4, I865. Went to Smithville today with Mr T- and our girls. Many objects of interest down the Cape Fear River. Saw Ft Fisher. Arranged for a D K at S- Sang for a dying soldier. On our way up the river sat in the Pilot House and sang. Mr Thomas said he had never enjoyed a day more in the South. Our way opens wonderfully. "Goodness and mercy, all my days &c
