Friday, July 21, 1865. At ten o'clock came in sight of Iowa. Met Capt and Mrs S. Welcomed by Mrs Dee and [Freyah]. After a nice dinner and good rest took 4 o'clock train for home. Ma & Jennie & Charlie taken completely by surprise but surrendered gracefully How delightful to be at home once more and kneel again at our family altar. Thankfulness fills my heart.
