Saturday, August 5, 1865. Morning brightened by a letter from my Mattie. Busy most of the day with household affairs Read several articles in the Atlantic P.M. Wrote three long letters but was very dull from being up till mid-night. Did not light the lamp till late & sat long in the twilight talking with Mother of Gods goodness to us. Too tired & dull to write to Mrs W- but bathed & retired early.
