Brown Mixture. T.J.Dorsett Senr 1/2 oz Liquorice, 1/2 oz Gum Arabic, 2 teaspoonfuls antimonial wine, 2 tea spoonfuls Sweet Spirits of Nitre, 40 drops Laudanum, & nearly 1/2 pt of water. Anti - Bilious pills. 1 gr Calomel. 1 of Rhubarb, 1 of Galap, 1 of alres, 1/4th gr Gamboge in each pill. Washing fluid. one lb sal soda, & 1/2 lb unslacked lime, & 1 gal water boiled for 20 min; let it stand till cool, then drain off, & put it in a stone jug or jar. Soak your clothes over night, or until they are wet through, then wring them out, & rub on plenty of soap, & in one boiler of clothes well covered with water, add one tea - cupful of the washing fluid. Boil half an hour briskly, then wash them thoroughly through one suds, & rinse through water, and hang out to dry.
