To make boots water-proof 4 oz Tallow, rosin + beeswax each one oz. Melt together + add an equal bulk of Neat's foot oil. Melt + apply before a fire. rub in well every day, + the boots will be very soft + water-proof. To cure corns. Dissolve a little pearl, (a few worthless buttons will do) in the juice of a lemon. This will take several days, when a creamy ointment will be produced. Moisten a piece of rag with it, + apply for a few mornings, + [surprising?] results will soon follow. To prepare Lime Water as the Doctors do, 4 oz quick lime, 1 gal boiling water. To slake the lime, pour on a little of the water at first, then add the rest + stir well, after which immediately cover + let it stand 3 hours. Keep the solution in closely stopped jars or bottles, + pour off the clear liquid when [illegible] for [illegible].
