246 sent to us from the Head Quarters of Brigade to the affect that Gen Grant had gained a victory over Lee & Captured 2800 Prisoners and an important Position. Also the Capture of Selma By Thomas with the Army of the Cumberland; in view of those Victories a Salute of 200 guns was fired at noon today 100 guns by the Army & 100 by the Navy operating around Spanish Fort. Co."C" ran a sap from our line to the rear for protection in day light.
