43 Selma Ala. Aug. 17" 1865 Thursday I read Walter Scots AyrshireTragedy today and finished reading Bayard Taylors views afoot a very interesting Book of travels in Europe in 1845. I arrested a White Citizen to day for striking a Colored man and sent Him to the Provost Marshall, who turned Him over to the Civil power & the Mayor released the White Man on His giving Bail. But the Negro was confined in jail. Such is Southern Justice to Black Men.
