Sunday 2 Sept 17 Selma Ala 1865 Went on Duty as Officer of Provost Guard. Details from all the Companies were filled promptly and willingly to all appearances. The 2d Iowa Vol Cavilry are in Town turning over their Government Property prior to being Mustered out. Sergt J.F. Hutchin has Received a Commission as Capt of Co. E. but for several reasons best known to Himself He will not muster. Sergt Moffit of Co H has also got a Captain C ommission of "H" Co. I wrote a letter to Mrs C.J. Henderson to day while on Duty in Town
