7 Selma Ala Sept 22d 1865 Friday We loaded up 18 Bales of Cotton at Walkers Plantation this Morning. And the old Man, His Sons, Daughters and field Hands & House Servants Seemed very unwilling to let the Cotton go. But they had given it to the late C. S. Govt and they must Submit to the Confiscation of all such property. But undoubtedly there is great Swindling by Treasury Ag"ts. Drove back to Selma Crossed the River Delivered the cotton Reported to Lee with Receipt for 18 Bales, and Came to Camp where I found one letter from my Wife, and one from D. B. Henderson with a letter from Adjt. Gen'l. Baker to Him.
