29 Jacksonville Butler Co Ala Wedensday Oct 11" 1865 Made a March of 16 miles today and went into[ Camp where the Dilapidated village of Goshen Situated in a valley Sourrounded by a Chain of Hills Covered with a promiscuous growth of Stunted Timber, Some Spots of the valley is rich, but generaly the Country in unproductive. The people Here are very Disloyal even yet, and of that uncopromising Spirit peculiar to All Mountainous Regions a ver few men went from here into the Federal Army, and now that they Mustered out and Coming home there is trouble and as the Confederate predominate Hence the necessaty of Federal Troops to keep order.
