17 Centre Ala, Dec 11th 1865 Monday I ordered Corporal J. D. Barker to Arrest [Josseh?] Daniels ex Sheriff of this County who is implicated in the murder of of a Federal Soldier last Summer. the Arrest was quietly Accomplished without resistance on the part of Mr Daniels. He had Come home the evening before thinking that we had no order for His Arrest. I had Joe Reed arrested also another man who was in the same affair. Mr Daniels had on His person a Revolver belonging to Lt.Col. Manderson 19" Regt. Ohio Infty which I took and turned over to Capt. Reed
