23 Centre Ala Dec 17" 1865 Sunday Wrote a letter to John Durno Had Some Cases of trouble betwixt Planters and Freed men to day. William Jordan returned to this place to day from a Furlough of 30 days visiting his Friends in Illinois. I went to hear a Sermon this evening by a Mr. Russell on the words "The way of the transgressor is hard" and I thought the Minister had the hardest of it by weariing himself by vehement taking & gesticulating which was at times painfull to witness
