26 Centre Ala Dec 20' 1865 Wedensday Went out on my poney to Old Moses Hamptons A Colored Preacher of inteligence & influence Amongst Amongst the Freedmen. I Advised him with regard to the Duties of His race with regard to labor, marriages, moral obligations, &c, &c. He realized the Situatio of affairs & promised to use His influence amongst them for their good. Recd per Curier Communication from Capt Reed now Brevt Major of Volunteer promoted for Gallant Service at Spanish Fort by recommendation of Col W. R. Marshal, Gens A. J. Smith & E. R. Canby
