4 Oct Fayette Co Iowa 1861 5 drilling commenced today in ernest we were called out to day four times the boys are learning very fast we are quartered with Gray of the Fayette Hotel who is appointed quarter master for Fayette County. the fare is beef and potatoes for breakfast beef & potatoes for dinner beef & potatoes for supper
