8 Oct 11 Fayette Co. Iowa 1861 I left Home today for our rendenvous at Fayette. G. S. Henderson took us up with his team 10 I went over to Fathers to bid them good by previous to leaving for our Camp at Dubuque Mother presented me with a Bible and very feelingly bade me obey its precepts and with tears & prayers bade me God speed
