173 Dec 19 Benton Barracks 1861 I wrote & mailed a letter to George Henderson today While walking on the parade ground an entiligent negro Boy about 15 years old came running towards me with a letter in His Hand and requested me to read it for Him it was from His Father in Keokuk Iowa it was poorly spelled but very affectionate
