1st Portotoc Misissippi July 13, 1864 Wensday A flank movement was made this morning and our forces started for Tupelo (20 miles distant.) Instead of [illegible] the enemy attacked our rear and tried to cut off our suply train. The 12th Iowa had a fight with McCoys Miss Brigade driving them off with great loss to them lea -ving their colors and dead and wounded on the field our Right loss one killed our officer and seven men wound -ed. Co. "C" was detailed as gaurd for the Brigade rain this day. We reached Tupelo before night and formed for battle
