7 Salem Miss July 19th 1864 Tuesday Marched to Salem today a distance of 15 miles. The march was very tedious as the Teams were giving out for want of forage etc and this country is very bare of forage of every description. Many contrabands and collecting and coming back to Memphis with us in teams gathered from the plantations along our route. The Roads are very dusty and we all look very dirty
