28 Holly Springs Miss August 9th 1864 Tuesday I wrote a few lines to David sending it together with a copy of the American Gazette as which I wish him to Keep for me untill I can send it Home. as it is a very usefull Book for Reference. I got it from one of our Boys who got it in a deserted Law office of Holly Springs. We Received orders to march very suddenly this evening to the assistance of our Brigade which is across the River. The citizens were all very sory at our leaving and Ladis waved adieus as we marched out of Town
