34 Talla Hatchie River Miss August 15th. 1864 Monday Strict orders have been issued prohibiting the men from going out Foraging beyond the Piquets on penalty of severe punishment, as nearly 40 men of this Command have already been captured by the enemy who are in force in our Front, flanks & Rear. I Recd some to day in the Waverly Magazine which has some splendid pieces both in prose & poetry. We have had some very heavy rains to day. which makes it very disagreable as we have to sleep on the ground & our shelter Tent, is very inadequat shelter in Heavy Rains
