43 Talla Hatchie River Miss August 24th 1864 Wensday We ocupied our old Camp near Abbeville. the movements of both armies seem very uncertain. and the Rebels wont make a stand for a fight anywhere but seem to be content by picking up foraging parties. & harassing us on both flanks & Rear. Co.C & S. were sent out after forage. I & 6 men were sent in advance as Pickets & vidette. I was sorry to see some outrages Committed on the Families on Rebels such as pillaging the Houses & taking their Clothing, Bedding, Pictures & Albums. these outrages are Comitted mostly by mean straglers
