44 Abbeville Talla Hatchie River August 25th. 1864 Thursday The Bridge was completed yesterday & the supply Trains sent over. and early this morning the 3d Division Commenced crossing, our Division following and we all crossed by 2 o clock our Brigade Covering the passage and bringing up the Rear. We marched to Waterford and Camped 9 miles in a very Hot afternoon. the Bridge was left up by Gen Mowers order so that the Rebels Could have a chance to Cross and fight us if they felt like it, But they did not attempt to hinder our Crossing in any way
