47 Holly Springs Miss August 28th. 1864 Sunday We Recd orders to march this morning our Regt is the last one to leave the place so that the negros. & strglers Cannot burn the Town. the 3d Division March to Memphis by the Pigeon Roost Road. the 1st Division march to La Grange 23 miles distant & take the Cars for Memphis left Holly Springs to day at nine o clock and marched to Davis Creek before sunset 20 miles. We had no water betwixt the Cold Water Creek & Davis Creek 10 miles & we suffered for water Considerable
