56 St Charles White River Ark. September 6th. 1864 Tuesday Gen Mower started to Report to Gen Steel this morning. the Troops ocupy the Fort Here & our Regt are encamped in line of Battle around the Fort. the Troops Here before we Came had gone on to Re enforce at Duvall's Bluff. We Received official information to day of the Capture of Atlanta by Shermans forces, & the Death of the Rebel Gen Hardee. Full Rations are being issued now the first time for two months past. Swiming is the Common amusement amongst the men here, as the River is very suitable for it
