57 St Charles Arkansas September 7th. 1864 Wensday Had a very Comfortable wash & swim in the White River this morning. where Hundreds of men & even Horses were indulging in the same Healthfull exercise. Political debate runs High amongst the soldiers now in view of the Coming election, none of the Candidates yet presented are very popular in the Army, Lincoln is to slow & vaCilating. Freemont seems to be actuated more by vindictive feeling then love of Country. and McLelan seems to think more of peace, then Principle
