58 Steamer Mattie White River Sept 8th. 1864 Thursday Recd orders to go on board the Steamer Mattie again which we did last night. and started this morning up the River to Re enforce Gen Steel at Little Rock. I wrote a letter to Jane to day. Arrived at Duvals Bluff this evening & slept on the Boat all night. the 9th. Iowa Cavalry are scouting in this vicinity Albert Brown & Dan Stone of that Regt. Called on us. they are taking Care of Mr Baker who has gone Crazy, He is the son of old Miles Baker of our Co. the Boys are well & like the service. Oprssively Hot.
