69 On the March in Arkansas Sept 19th. 1864 Monday Marched from Stoney Creek to the Red Fork of White River near Surcey a distance of 18 miles, Surcey is the County seat of White County. It has been a very thriving Villiage before the. It is surrounded by some of the best Black oak Timber I have seen in the South. the Crops in now is Corn, Sweet Potatoes & Cotton, But not very extensively in either. We had to ford the Red Fork, and each Regt took off shoes & stockings & Rolled up Trousers & went in, & went into Camp on North Bank
