88 Cape Girardeau Missouri October 7th 1864 Friday Revellie Beat this morning at 1 oclock, and orders given to march to the landing and embark for St Louis. We were assigned quarters on the Steamer Armenia and Started at Sunrise the advance of the Division and first Boat of the fleet. The weather is very Cold and as we are nearly all half Clad we suffer very much; and the officers here Posted guards at the Cabin doors to prevent all from going in But Commissoned officers a sure evidence of the [senseless?] upstart Army Officer. I wrote a letter to Mrs Jane Durno. our Company on deck guard
