89 Steamer Armenia Miss. River October 8th. 1864 Saturday We Suffed teribly from Cold last night. the wind swept down the River with great force and sifted through our thin Covering and pierced our very bones. I fiel satisfied that our Present General Joe. Mower Cares far more for His own glory, than he does for the Comfort of His men, or the Redemption of His Country. He was Heard to express a desire to precipitate His tired, Hungry half Clad & exausted Division on the whole army of Gen Price. which is 4 times our number. Arrived at St Louis at 3 oclock P.M. to day and tried to anchor in the Stream but [failed?] & tied up at Levee
