105 On the March in Missouri October 23d 1864 Sunday We moved out first to day Marching very Rappidly Westward to Independence from last nights Camp in order to head off the Enemy. Marching 28 miles with onely one short Halt of 15 minutes I have never suffered so much as on this march. I got a Short ride on the Majors Horse & Capt. Reed's in all 3 miles. My Chums Mr Hutchins & Baker are very Tired and favor me some in doing most of the Cooking for our mess as I have had Chill fever & like all the rest foot sore & tired at night we are now near the Enemy but our Cavilry Cannot Hold Him
