13 The Phosphoric Pencil Is a small bit of Phosphorus, put into a Quill and kept in a Phial, in Water; when you write, dip your pencil often in the Water, to prevent its taking fire - [left margin] 59 The effect of Charcoal on Ulcers &c By sprinkling it upon old ulcers, the foetid mull of the Pus is taken off. and Charcoal Powder mixed with Water is employed with good effect as a wash for the Mouth, to prevent a stinking breath, probably often oweing to decayed teeth - [left margin] 04 The Fire Bottle Take as much unslacked Lime as will lie on the [illegible] of a small Pen knife, put it into a short Bottle, then add to it about half a drachm of Phosphorus, and shake it gently until it takes fire, then blow gently into the Bottle until it has done crackling or fizing, and it will be fit for use [left margin] 08 To make a continual Light by Night Take one ounce of the oil of Almonds, put half a drachm of Phosphorus, and two or three grains of the flower of Sulphur with it, hold the Bottle in a gently warmth to dissolve then shake the Bottle and draw your Cork and you will have a fine glow-worm light. If you rub a little of the liquid on the Nose or any other part, it will appear all in a flame
