25 and then strain it off when Cold let the top be taken off Take a quarter of a pint warm two or three times in the course of the Day until the Cough is entirely removed For a Cough [left margin] Mrs. Capt. Chalmer's [Donatum?] Mix well together the Yolk of a new laid egg two tablespooonsful of sweet oil, & two tablespoonsful of Honey; dose. Take one half of the aforegoing composition in about half a Tumbler of warm water drinking it just as you get into Bed - repeat this for two Evinings and in all probability the Cough will have quitted the patient - An infallable Cure for Colds & Coughs [in margin] Mrs [Scorllis?] Prescription Book of M Alexander Powder of Anniseed beaten very fine in a Mortar, & sifted thro a lawn Sieve, a quarter of an ounce Liquorice Root cut across the grain in slices dried before the fire till crisp then powdered & sifted as above. half an ounce - Senna clean [illegible] powdered & sifted a Quarter of an ounce grated Ginger 1 Dram. Flour of Sulphur 3 Drams Mix all these together in four ounces of the bwst Honey - Dose - Take about the big ness of a Nutmeg af this Composition when ever the Cough shall be troublesome - From the original Receipt in Mrs Alexander's Family Receipt Book extracted by JWDurrell -
