HInts for drawing & painting Flowers Vermillion and Carmine make Scarlet Indigo Lake & Gamboge make neutral Tint Gamboge & Indigo make Green Beetroot colour made with Carmine & Seppia Grey made with Indigo & indian red - Carmine & Indigo make a beautiful purple A good back ground Seppia Lake and Lamp black Wall Flower 1st a wash of red lead , put in the shaddows with neutral Tint, vein it with red lead, than wash it over with Indian Yellow, and lastly with Gamboge - both those latter colors being necessary to prevent the red lead turning black Almost all shaddows however delicate to be put in with Neutral Tint - Rose the shaddows to be put in with Smalt & Lake - and yellow Ochre with Lake for the glowing tints - Yellow flowers Shades to be put in with brown pink with the addition of a little neutral Tint - Red lead can never be used without guarding it with Indian Yellow & Gamboge as it always turns black when used alone
